Study
Abroad
There are many ways to study abroad while at The University
of Memphis. You can contact the Center for International Programs
and Services for more information at (901) 678-2814 or visit their
Web site: http://cipsweb.memphis.edu/abroad/default.htm.
National
Student Exchange
The National Student Exchange (NSE) provides opportunities for
undergraduates to study for up to one calendar year at another NSE
member college or university. With more than 170 colleges from which
to choose, students can find a campus with just the right combination
of courses, facilities, and environment to meet their personal academic
interests. There are several funding plans for NSE study, including
the opportunity to pay only U of M tuition while attending another
school.
Undergraduate
Research Opportunities
- Works-in-Progress
Symposium (WIPS) held at The University of Memphis in November
gives undergraduates the opportunity to present their research.
Students who present at WIPS in the fall semester can apply to
attend the National Conference on Undergraduate Research.
- National
Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) is the largest
undergraduate research conference in the United States. The University
Honors Program provides financial support for students to attend
this conference each spring.
- Student
Research Forum (SRF) is a research forum held in April at
The University of Memphis. Sponsored jointly by the Graduate College
and the University Honors Program, this forum provides all U of
M students with the opportunity to present their research to faculty
and peers. Cash prizes are awarded in various academic categories.
- Honors
Thesis Research Grants are provided on a competitive basis
to students to help offset the cost of undergraduate research.
- Undergraduate
Research Scholar Transcript Designation can be earned by students
who attend both WIPS and NCUR and present at one other approved
research forum.
Leadership
and Service
- The Honors
Student Council (HSC) is a unique organization of Honors students
that serves as the representative voice for all Honors Program
members. The HSC provides feedback to the Director of the Honors
Program on honors courses, requirements, and extracurricular opportunities,
as well as on university issues that impact honors students. The
HSC brings major speakers to campus, communicates with other student
organizations, and promotes community among honors students. The
HSC members also assist with on- and off-campus recruiting events.
Elections to the HSC are held in Spring semester. To become involved,
pick up an application in the Honors office, 404 Jones Hall.
- The Resident
Scholars Assistants (RSAs) are a group of 12 students who
live on the Honors Floor in Richardson Towers. These students
serve as mentors to incoming students and plan co-curricular activities
for honors students living in Richardson Towers. In exchange for
their service to the Honors Program, the RSAs receive private
rooms at double occupancy rate. Applications are available in
February and due in early April. The RSAs are selected based on
their application and an interview with Honors Program staff.
